Balloon Safari

Arcade Shooter Game for Propietary Hardware - Unity, Maya
Responsible for initial concept, art direction, all modeling and UI elements, and initial set dressing.
Balloon Safari was created by Serenity Forge for TI Outdoors.

Balloon Safari was created by Serenity Forge for TI Outdoors to help showcase their proprietary hardware. This technology uses real firearms that have been modified to interact with the game environment. The concept of Balloon Safari was to create a kid friendly arcade shooter game. The world of Balloon Safari is made entirely of different colored balloons.

In Balloon Safari I was responsible for the art direction, the initial concept, all modeling and UI design. I also was responsible for initial set-dressing and path mapping.

For this project, our design constraints were to make it in a short amount of time, but still make it have a large amount of replayability, and to make a shooting game that would appeal to a younger audience. I chose balloons for the aesthetic because we would not have to spend very much time at all on textures, and objects make out of balloons were relatively simple to model. Not to mention that the idea and world is cute and fun, akin to popping balloons at a carnival, thus appealing to children while remaining non-violent. The way the world is set up, in a series of winding interlocking paths, allows the player to explore the world and get several different experiences, while allowing us to save time by set-dressing only a relatively small area.
